Valium is a medicine which is used to treat insomnia, anxiety, symptoms of acute alcohol or opiate withdrawal, epilepsy and all types of seizures either partial seizures or seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome which may include myoclonic, atonic, mental absence etc.
Valium is the most widely used trade name for Diazepam. It is best known name for this drug. Diazepam was developed and introduced by Leo Sternbach of the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Hoffmann-La Roche in early 1960s and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in 1963. It is the benzodiazepine class of drugs.
Valium is the best and most widely used and prescribed drug for reducing tension and anxiety.
